ABNR Comes Home with Haul of Trophies from 2020 ALB Indonesia Law Awards

ABNR’s position as one of Indonesia’s top-3 law firms was confirmed once again at the seventh iteration of the prestigious Asian Legal Business (ALB) Indonesia Law Awards on Oct. 8, which saw the firm emerge joint runner-up in terms of number of awards received, taking the trophies for the following categories:

  • Managing Partner of the Year (Mr. Emir Nurmansyah)
  • Arbitration Law Firm of the Year
  • Banking and Financial Services Law Firm of the Year
  • Litigation Law Firm of the Year
  • Maritime Law Firm of the Year

The ALB Indonesia Law Awards recognizes the country’s best law firms, legal work and lawyers. It is one of only two awards programs that are specifically focused on Indonesia and the only program of its kind that is judged by a jury made up of leading Indonesian lawyers, academics and market players.

Commenting on ABNR’s awards, Management Committee member Mr. Nafis Adwani highlighted how 2020 has been a remarkable year for the firm’s litigators. “These awards for litigation and arbitration come just after ABNR was named Law Firm of the Year at the Benchmark Asia-Pacific Awards 2020,” he said, adding that ABNR’s Dispute Resolution Department had an outstanding track record of wins at all levels, including five in the Supreme Court and six at the appellate level over the last year alone. “So, a great year all round for our litigators in terms of international recognition.”

Meanwhile, fellow Management Committee member Mr. Agus Ahadi Deradjat said that the award for “Banking and Financial Services Law Firm of the Year” no doubt reflected ABNR’s rapidly expanding fintech work, alongside the continuing strength of the firm’s traditional banking & finance practice.

“The fintech scene has been amazing over the last 5 years or so, and we’re pleased to say that we’re a very strong player in this segment. But our traditional or conventional banking & finance practice is also performing strongly. For example, our USD 1.85 billion financing deal for the development of the Jambaran-Tiung Biru (JTB) gas field was named Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Deal of the Year by Project Finance International. That’s a leading international industry journal published by Thomson Reuters,” Mr. Deradjat said.

He added: “We also worked on a long series of financial-sector M&A deals over the last couple of years, such as KB Kookmin Card Corp.’s recent acquisition of PT Finansia Multi Finance, the Industrial Bank of Korea’s acquisition and merger of PT Bank Agris Tbk and PT Bank Mitraniaga Tbk, APRO Financial Ltd.’s acquisition and merger of PT Bank Dinar Tbk and PT Bank Oke Indonesia, and Shinhan Bank’s acquisition and merger of PT Bank Metro Express and PT Centratama Nasional Bank.”

These latest accolades for ABNR come hard on the heels of the firm’s success in the 2020 iteration of the equally prestigious Asia Business Law Journal Indonesia Law Firm Awards, which saw ABNR take awards in the following categories:

Best Overall Law Firms; Aviation; Banking & Finance; Competition & Antitrust; Corporate & Commercial; Dispute Resolution; Energy, Projects & Infrastructure; Labour & Employment; Litigation; Mergers & Acquisitions; Private Equity & Venture Capital; Restructuring & Insolvency; Shipping & Maritime. https://www.legalbusinessonline.com/law-awards/alb-indonesia-law-awards-2020
