ABNR Shines in 2019 List of Indonesia’s Top-100 Lawyers

ABNR has emerged in joint first place in terms of the number of partners / foreign counsel recognized by Asian Business Law Journal (ABLJ) as being on the “A List” of Indonesia’s Top-100 lawyers, marking the second year in a row that the Firm has been at the top of ABLJ’s annual lawyer rankings.

A total of six ABNR partners are recognized as being on the A-List this year, namely, Mr. Agus Deradjat, Ms. Chandrawati Dewi, Mr. Freddy Karyadi, Mr. Indra Setiawan, Mr. Nafis Adwani, and Mr. Theodoor Bakker.

Responding to the announcement of the 2019 list, ABNR Management Committee member Mr. Agus Deradjat said: “This really is an outstanding result for our lawyers. It is particularly noteworthy in that ABLJ bases its line-up of top lawyers on nominations from in-house counsel in Indonesia and elsewhere, as well as Indonesia-focused partners at international law firms outside Indonesia.”

Agus’ words were echoed by another member of the firm’s Management Committee, Mr. Nafis Adwani, who commented: “What sets the ABLJ list of top lawyers apart is that it is not drawn up based on submissions from the law firms or the lawyers themselves, unlike so many other lawyer recognition programs. Rather, it is based on objective feedback from general counsel and foreign law firms. So, it carries much more weight in our view.”

Meanwhile, the third member of ABNR’s Management Committee, Mr. Emir Nurmansyah, said that while recognitions of this kind were never an end in themselves, it was nevertheless encouraging for lawyers to see their work being acknowledged.

He said that the last year had been particularly rewarding for ABNR in terms of international recognition, with the Firm garnering a host of awards and accolades, including the awards for “Indonesia Deal Firm of the Year; ” “Deal Maker of the Year;” “Restructuring & Insolvency Law Firm or the Year,” “Project, Energy & Infrastructure Law Firm of the Year,” “Project Finance Deal of the Year (Jakarta Bandung High Speed Rail Project),” and “Indonesia Deal of the Year (Jakarta Bandung High Speed Rail Project)” at the Asian Legal Business Indonesia Law Awards 2018, which were presented last October in Jakarta.

In addition, ABNR recorded its best ever showing in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific rankings in 2019, with the Firm’s expertise being recognized in a total of 12 key practice areas, including Tier-1 rankings for Antitrust & Competition, Banking & Finance, Corporate M&A, Projects & Energy, Real Estate, Restructuring & Insolvency, and Shipping, Tier-2 rankings for Aviation, Capital Markets, IT & Telecoms, and Labor & Employment, and a Tier-4 ranking for Dispute Resolution (no mean feat given the exceedingly tight competition in the Indonesian Disputes & ADR market at the present time).

Further, the 2019 edition of Legal 500 Asia Pacific lauds 19 ABNR lawyers as either “Leading Individuals” or “Recommended Lawyers” for their cutting-edge and innovative advice to corporate clients.
