ABNR’s Mr. Emir Nurmansyah Named ‘Southeast Asia Dealmaker of the Year’

We are very pleased to announce that ABNR management committee member Mr. Emir Nurmansyah was named Southeast Asia Dealmaker of the Year at the 2020 iteration of the Asian Legal Business (ALB) Southeast Asia Law Awards on Oct. 15, marking the first time ever that a lawyer from Indonesia has been accorded this prestigious regional award.

In addition, ABNR’s USD 1.85-billion Jambaran-Tiung Biru Gas Field Development Project deal was named Southeast Asia Islamic Finance Deal of the Year.

Emir was the only Indonesian lawyer to be recognized on the night, while ABNR was one of only two Indonesian firms whose work was lauded.

The ALB Southeast Asia Law Awards is an annual event that pays tribute to the outstanding performance of law firms, private practitioners and in-house teams across the Southeast Asia region.

These latest recognitions for ABNR come hard on the heels of the firm’s recent haul of awards at the ALB Indonesia Law Awards on Oct. 8, where Emir was named Indonesia Managing Partner of the Year, and the firm emerged as overall runner-up in terms of number of awards, taking the trophies for Arbitration Law Firm of the Year, Banking and Financial Services Law Firm of the Year, Litigation Law Firm of the Year, and Maritime Law Firm of the Year.

Commenting on how it felt to receive two prestigious international awards at separate events in the same week, Emir said that they were entirely unexpected and very humbling. “But, of course, this is not about me personally. Rather, it’s recognition of the hard work and long hours put in by all of our lawyers and staff. I would like to thank everyone at ALB, all of my colleagues at ABNR, and especially our clients, without whom none of our achievements would have been possible.”

Previously, Emir had been recognized as Indonesia Dealmaker of the Year at both the 2018 and 2019 iterations of the ALB Indonesia Law Awards, an unprecedented achievement over two consecutive years.
