Edmund Khovey joined ABNR in December 2023, focusing his practice on dispute resolution, restructuring & insolvency, employment, and shipping. Prior to joining ABNR, he served as an intern at one of Indonesia’s largest law firms, where he often worked in dispute resolution.

In dispute resolution, his practice encompasses commercial litigation (contractual and tort claims), arbitration, criminal advisory, and employment disputes. Recently, he assisted an international insurance company in an out-of-court environmental dispute settlement, with a total settlement amounting to IDR 76 billion. Additionally, he successfully represented a Singaporean-based mining company at a cassation stage against a tort claim filed by local mining company.

In restructuring & insolvency, he represented a Chinese creditor in submitting a USD 30 million claim against a local real-estate company. Since the case also disputes ownership of the land, he also represented the client in state-administrative litigation. Recently, he has been involved in bankruptcy proceedings, where he assisted an international investment company in submitting a claim against South-East Asia’s largest textile manufacturing company.

In employment, he advises various international pharmaceutical companies, in employment termination due to document falsification, violation of workplace safety regulations, and workplace harassment. Separately, he frequently conducts employment due diligence to assist companies in complying with the employment laws and regulations.

In shipping, he advises clients on the shareholder structure and vessel requirements for joint-venture shipping companies as regulated under the newly enacted Shipping Law.

In addition to the above practices, Edmund recently assisted an advertising company in the legal and technological aspect of online-dating ads, to prevent the client from being associated with prostitution-related crimes.

Edmund graduated cum laude from University of Indonesia in 2023, majoring in Private International Law. During his studies, he competed in several mooting competitions, such as the Brazilian Institute for the Law of the Sea International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea Moot Court Competition in 2021, and Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot in 2022.
