Mei is a partner in the firm’s banking and finance practice. Her work centres on transactional cross-border M&A, equity and debt fundraisings, digital finance, derivatives and structured finance, sustainable finance and impact investment, fund and investment management. Mei was instrumental in founding the firm’s fintech practice and she remains at the forefront of the firm’s work in digital finance.
In her M&A and investment work in the financial sector, she advises global institutional investors on acquisitions, co-investments, and primary and serial fundraisings by in-scope group companies in Indonesia. Recent work includes a USD 100 million Series C fundraising by a Southeast Asian payments and crypto-driven group, a USD 100 million Series E investment in an Indonesian digital banking and finance group, and Bukalapak’s co-investment by way of in-kind capital participation in an all-in-one investment platform.
Mei has also assisted with the acquisition of private and listed finance companies, including Korea Development Bank’s (KDB’s) acquisition of the now-renamed PT KDB Tifa Finance Tbk., KB Kookmin Card Corp.’s USD 81 million acquisition of PT KB Finansia Multi Finance, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation’s acquisitions of OTO Multiartha and Summit Oto Finance.
In digital finance, Mei has deep regulatory and market knowledge across the niche areas of payments, cryptocurrency and blockchain, online lending, and other forms of fintech.
In payments, her regular clientele includes global payment card networks, global e-money giants, and leading payments-driven groups in Indonesia. Recently, she advised several prominent Indonesian payments-driven groups on complex corporate restructuring exercises. In online lending, she advises market leaders within the space; her ongoing work includes advising a Southeast Asian, AI-driven tech group on a strategic partnership with an Indonesian digital bank and the acquisition of a top player in the Indonesian market.
In cryptocurrency and blockchain, Mei advises some of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges and US and European-based crypto firms on the regulatory and legal aspects of spot and derivatives trading, stablecoins, tokenization, token use cases, crypto on-ramp and off-ramp, blockchain networks, DeFi, and capital controls. Most recently, she advised OSL Group Limited on its acquisition of KoinSayang, through which OSL secured licenses for both spot and derivatives digital asset trading in Indonesia. She has also advised a widely diversified Indonesian business group on its strategic alliance with an American cryptocurrency exchange.
In other work, she has helped incorporate a number of pioneers in the Indonesian fintech market, including an insurance aggregator, an investment platform for foreign stocks through commodities derivatives, and a robo-advisory.
On the policy front, she assisted the Indonesian Fintech Association (AFTECH), an industry association officially recognized by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), in preparing codes of conduct and policy papers for the OJK.
Financial markets is one of Mei’s core strengths. She advises elite international banks and financial institutions on derivatives negotiations and transactions under the 2002 ISDA, the 2000 and 2011 GMRA, the 1996 MSFTA, and the 2010 and 2018 GMSLA, with Indonesian banks and other entities as their counterparties, and on the regulatory and legal aspects of derivatives and structured product transactions.
She has also advised on industry-wide enforceability and close-out netting opinions for a leading global derivatives industry association. Her work also extends to cross-border cash-pooling arrangements, on which she advises international banks and multinational groups as to structuring and enforceability in Indonesia.
For market infrastructure, she helped a UK-based stock exchange establish Indonesia’s first market infrastructure for money markets. In securitisation, she has advised an e-commerce giant on asset-backed securities transactions that rely on “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) loans as the underlying instruments.
In sustainable finance and impact investment, Mei advises development finance institutions and impact investors, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Reflecting this work, in 2025 she was selected as one of 13 lawyers from across the Asia-Pacific region for the inaugural Impact Legal Fellows Program, a pioneering collaboration between the IFC and NYU Law’s Grunin Center for Law and Social Entrepreneurship, held in New York. The program, which examines the pivotal role of lawyers in building resilient markets and advancing impact investing, continues to this day.
In fund and investment management, she advises on the regulatory aspects of custodial and collateral management, securities derivatives, shareholding disclosure requirements, securities marketing rules, and financial-institution licensing and ongoing compliance requirements.
Mei is a regular contributor to international publications, such as the country comparative guides published by Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500, and Lexology’s Panoramic.
Mei graduated cum laude from Padjadjaran University, Bandung, majoring in international and commercial law, and completed her Master of Banking and Finance Law (LL.M) at the University of Melbourne.
