Prior to joining ABNR in 2023, Edgar practiced as a foreign lawyer at a Korea-based tier-1 law firm and as an in-house counsel at an Indonesian corporate group. He has advised on a number of major deals that involved MOUs with the Indonesian government, an EV battery joint venture (chosen as a deal of the year by TXF), Lotte Group’s LINE Project, the initial setup of an auto company in Indonesia (including business structuring and land purchase), a wide variety of initial investments and equity transactions, the mergers of several multinational companies, and the structuring of large-scale factory investments for global companies.

In his Foreign Direct InvestmentCorporate, and M&A practices, Edgar has assisted a long list of high-end multinational clients with projects in Indonesia. These include the Indonesian aspects of M&A and spin-off transactions, and drafting transaction documents for share purchases, joint ventures, mergers, share subscriptions, asset purchases and shareholder agreements. His practice covers all aspects of setting up a local subsidiary, including regulatory tasks, such as Investment List analysis, filings with the OSS system (the online regulatory portal), and risk-based investment analysis submissions to the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

In Project Development, he has extensive experience advising construction companies. Over the years, he has been involved in many of Indonesia’s largest construction projects, including advising on the feasibility study on the Jakarta LRT PPP project for Export-Import Bank of Korea, the LINE Project for Lotte E&C and the Chandra Asri Perkasa 2 Project for Samsung E&C. He has also conducted research into Indonesian construction law on behalf of the International Contractors’ Association of Korea and has advised on a number of disputes related to contractors.

In Real Estate, Edgar’s recent work includes assisting with the sale and purchase of lands in industrial estates in Banten, Surabaya, and East Kalimantan, and resort developments in Bali. His work included advising on feasibility studies, land due diligence, obtaining licenses and permits, and preparing the requisite agreements.

In Commercial Disputes, Edgar has assisted clients on a wide range of contractual disputes and judicial proceedings, including a Korea-based Indonesian bank in a claim for damages at the appeal and judicial-review levels.

In Restructuring & Insolvency, he acted for a creditor in the USD 9.8 billion court-sanctioned debt restructuring of Indonesian flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. He also acted for a number of foreign-owned Indonesian companies in proceedings for the Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations (PKPU) and in bankruptcy procedures.

Edgar is a graduate of SungKyunKwan University (LL.B) in Korea (2011) and Pancasila University (S.H.) in Indonesia (2020), and holds LL.M degrees from New York University (2013) and the National University of Singapore (2013). His published works include Indonesian Company Law (Routledge, 2018, New York and London), and Indonesian Law (Pakyoungsa, 2021, Korea), as well as several articles in legal journals, including the University of Indonesia Law Review. He regularly makes presentations on Indonesian legal matters and serves as a guest lecturer at a number of Indonesian universities. He is admitted to the New York Bar and is a registered foreign lawyer in Indonesia.
