Afif joined ABNR in 2021 after graduating from the University of Indonesia with a degree in business law. He is an associate whose growing practice focuses on technology, media & telecommunications (TMT), mergers & acquisitions (M&A), foreign direct investment (FDI), general corporate, and real estate.
Afif is a member of ABNR’s core TMT team that advises some of the world’s largest technology, telecommunications, and social media companies on Indonesian licensing, compliance, and regulatory matters. His work includes advising telecommunications operations, cloud and data center services, OTT platforms, personal data protection, and other digital platform services. He also has experience advising on complex M&A transactions in the TMT sector, notably assisting PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk on the establishment of PT Telekomunikasi Infrastruktur Indonesia (Infranexia), a major business carve-out and strategic transformation project in the country’s telecoms sector. He also assisted in PT XL Axiata Tbk’s IDR 750 billion sale of 859 towers to Malaysia’s Edotco, including lease-back arrangements valued at IDR 1.195 trillion.
In M&A, Afif has supported a wide range of due diligence and transactional work across sectors. He was a member of the ABNR team that advised Yamato Kogyo Co., Ltd., Siam Yamato Steel Co., Ltd., and Hanwa Indonesia in their joint acquisition of PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk’s long steel business division. He also advised Geo Energy Resources Group (Singapore) on its USD 200 million acquisition of two subsidiaries of Indonesia’s Rajawali Group: coal producer PT Golden Eagle Energy Tbk and infrastructure firm PT Marga Bara Jaya.
In FDI and general corporate, Afif has advised various foreign investors on market entry, corporate structuring, and compliance matters.
In real estate, he recently advised PT Anaga Group Indonesia (part of the Daidan Group) on the USD 40 million land acquisition for the District 9 mixed-use complex in Senopati, South Jakarta.
Afif also contributes to ABNR’s restructuring & insolvency work. He was involved in the USD 9.8-billion debt restructuring of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, the largest court-sanctioned restructuring in Indonesian history. In addition, he supported six aircraft lessors in the debt restructuring of PT Sriwijaya Air, with total claims exceeding USD 207 million.
During his university years, Afif was actively involved in the Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA), where he served as the Project Officer for ALSA Care and Legal Coaching Clinic and later as Vice Director of ALSA Local Chapter University of Indonesia, demonstrating early leadership and a commitment to legal outreach and education.
