Woody, who joined ABNR in 1996 and was made partner in 2007, focuses his practice on mergers & acquisitions (M&A), foreign direct investment (FDI), banking & finance and project finance & development.

 

Over the years, he has garnered particular industry-specific experience and expertise in general mining, plantations & agriculture,  real estate & construction manufacturing, consumer goods, energy & natural resources, oil & gas, shipping, aviation and automotive.  

 

In M&A and FDI, recent highlights of his work include advising PT Semesta Alam Barito, an Indonesian coal mining company, on their sale of a combined 78.8 percent interest in PT Semesta Alam Barito to Pembroke Resources II Holdings B.V., a Netherlands-based investment vehicle owned by Australian coal-mining company Pembroke Resources Pty Ltd; and assisting a France-based speciality foods producer with the establishment of a joint venture with an Indonesia company to produce high-end confectionary. 

 

He also worked on Asia Pacific Resources’ acquisition of oil company PT Sele Raya Merangin Dua (which holds a production sharing contract for the Merangin II oil and gas block) and the deal’s subsequent restructuring following the imposition of additional requirements by the Indonesian Government.

 

In 2017/2018, he was counsel to South Korea-based Samtan Co. Ltd., for its USD 517 million sale of a 45 percent interest in PT Kideco Jaya Agung (an Indonesian coal mining company) to Indonesian energy company PT Indika Energy Tbk and its affiliate, PT Indika Inti Corpindo. 

 

He also assisted a leading Indonesian e-commerce company with their acquisition of an e-travel company with operations in various jurisdictions across Southeast Asia.

 

In banking & finance, his work over the last year includes advising the lenders on their USD 250 million loan for the procurement of a powership; and the lenders for their USD 250 million loan to a China-based aviation leasing company.

 

In project finance & development, he assisted PT Weda Bay Nickel during five years of negotiations with the Indonesian Government for the amendment of their Contract of Work, and advised the company on the development of their USD 3 billion ferro nickel mine and smelter on Halmahera Island in Eastern Indonesia. He was also a member of the ABNR team that advised the finance parties (including JBIC and NEXI) on their USD 330.5-million financing for the development of a new, ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant with a generation capacity of approximately 2 x 1000MW in Jepara, Central Java.

 

Woody is a member of PERADI (Indonesian Advocates Association) and AKHI (Association of Indonesian Legal Consultants), and is recognized as a “Highly Regarded” practitioner for Banking & Finance and M&A by IFLR 1000.
